Making Waves

Let’s Dance and Anthology Brewing Company collaborate for International Women’s Day

Our good friend Liam Kane runs an independent brewery in Leeds and every year he brews a limited edition beer in honour of International Women’s Day, collaborating with local female-led businesses and organisations and donating a share of the profits to help charities that support women and girls.

This year it was great to be asked to join him in the brewery to help create this year’s beer, and to select the name and charity that would benefit.

We’ve worked with Liam in the past and have had the pleasure of designing quite a few of his beer labels, so I was really happy when he asked us to partner on the project. We spent a lovely afternoon at Anthology, learning all about the brewing process and watching the beer slowly come to life.

After lengthy discussion we decided on the name Making Waves – a nod to fourth wave feminism and my love of surfing – which then made the choice of charity easy. We agreed that Yonder, a female-led surf school based in North Tyneside, were a perfect fit. Yonder work with marginalised women and girls, helping to build confidence, self-esteem and positive mental health through surfing.

As a passionate surfer, I really admire the work that Yonder do and understand the positive impact the sea and surfing can have on your wellbeing, so it’s great that the funds raised (£15 from every cask sold) will help provide surf sessions for women and girls in the North East who might not have had the opportunity otherwise. Yonder work with The Acorn Project, Refugee Action and The Angelou Project, as well as working with local mothers and the LGBTQ community.

Making Waves is a 4.2% hazy pale with Motueka hops from New Zealand, giving it a zesty lemon and lime sherbet sorbet taste and is currently being poured in Leeds at the Brudenell Social Club, Whitelocks, Brunswick, Friends of Ham, and at Kobenhavn in Halifax.

We’ll be raising a glass for this year’s International Women’s Day!
